What we see in Blue Mountain Heights

Blue Mountain Heights is one of those suburbs where you pull up the driveway and immediately understand why people pay what they do to live here. The views back over the Downs are something else. But that elevation — sitting up on the escarpment like that — means these homes cop weather that the rest of Toowoomba doesn't quite see in the same way. Storm season up here is no joke. Lightning activity is noticeably higher, and homeowners who've been here a few years already know it.

Because most of the housing stock went up from the 2000s onwards, you're generally dealing with decent modern wiring rather than the knob-and-tube or dodgy 1970s work you find elsewhere in town. That's a relief. But these are big, well-appointed homes, and the owners tend to want their electrical systems to match — extensive lighting across large outdoor areas, home automation setups, the works. It's more complex work, not necessarily problematic work.

What catches people off guard is just how much the elevation factors into everything. It's not something you think about when you're buying the view.
